Out of Sight, Out of Mind or Does Absence Really Make the Heart Grow Fonder?

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. But sometimes, absence just teaches you how to live without someone.

So which is it?

Here's what I think: Absence doesn't create love. It reveals how much love was there in the first place. When two people are genuinely connected, distance can strengthen their appreciation for each other. They miss the conversations, the laughter, the intimacy, and even the little things they once took for granted.

But when a relationship is held together by convenience, routine, or physical proximity, distance can expose just how little substance there really is.

Sometimes you don't miss the person. You miss the habit of having them around. And sometimes, the longer someone is gone, the more you realize that your life is actually more peaceful without them.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: If someone can go weeks without speaking to you, checking on you, or making an effort to maintain the connection, perhaps the relationship meant more to you than it did to them.

But don't confuse constant communication with genuine love, either. Some people talk every day and still have no meaningful emotional connection.

The real question isn't whether someone misses you when you're gone. It's whether they value you enough to make sure you remain part of their life.

Because love may survive distance, but it rarely survives prolonged indifference.

So let's talk about it: Does absence make the heart grow fonder, or does it simply make it easier to forget? And if someone only realizes your value after losing access to you, is that really love—or just regret?
