You can desire someone.
You can be attached to them.
You can fear losing them.
But love without respect is not love that can last. It slowly becomes control, entitlement, resentment, or pain.
Because when you truly respect someone, you honor their feelings, their boundaries, their voice, and their dignity. You respect their right to disagree with you—to be fully themselves, even while being your partner.
You don’t intentionally embarrass them, belittle them, manipulate them, or repeatedly cross boundaries and then hide behind, “But I love you.”
Love is not just how strongly you feel about someone. Love is also how carefully you handle them. And sometimes the biggest question in a relationship isn’t: “Does this person love me?" It’s: “Does this person respect me?”
Because without respect, eventually even love becomes painful.
